How it works

Takes one second. Saves the worst week of someone's life.

1

Tap once a day

On your phone, your watch, a widget, or just by switching off your morning alarm. Or let your step count do it for you.

2

Miss it, and we check

First a nudge, then a phone call, then a loud alarm that cuts through silent mode. Most of the time you just forgot, and nobody else hears a thing.

3

Still quiet? We tell your people

In the order you chose, by text and notification. The first to respond takes it from there, and everyone else is told.

Meet Mort

Keep checking in. Mort gets dressed up.

Every day you tap, your streak grows and Mort unlocks something new. Snoozes and holidays never break it. Drag the slider and see.

The serious bit

No jokes when it matters.

Mort is for your everyday check-ins. The moment an alert goes out, it's calm, clear and practical, for you and for the people coming to help.

  • Door and key safe codes stay locked until an alert, then show for 24 hours
  • Your contacts don't need the app. A text and a link is enough
  • Send a practice alert so everyone knows what a real one looks like
  • Pet care, GP and an "if I'm in hospital" plan, all in one place

Questions

The sensible stuff.

Is this an emergency service?+

No. We can't send an ambulance, and alerts can be delayed by things like a flat battery or no signal. If you're in danger, call your local emergency number. Mort is for the other situation: when something has happened and nobody would otherwise notice for days.

What if my phone dies?+

A dead phone looks like a missed check-in, so we'd follow the usual steps. That's why we nudge and ring first, and why alerts go by text as well as notification. If your battery gets very low, Mort makes a note of it, so if an alert does go out, your people know it may just be a flat battery.

What if I fall?+

If you wear an Apple Watch, you can switch on the hard fall fast track. If your watch detects a hard fall and you don't respond within 5 minutes, Mort tells your people straight away, instead of waiting for your next check-in.

Do my contacts need the app?+

No. They get a text with a link to a simple web page. No download, no account, no cost.

Who can see my door codes?+

Nobody, until an alert goes out. Your card is encrypted on your phone before it goes anywhere, so we can't read it either. During an alert, only the contact who responds can open it, for 24 hours. Once you're found, it locks again, and you can see exactly who opened it and when.

Why isn't it a subscription?+

Because it doesn't need to be. Your data lives on your phone. All we run is a tiny server that notices if you go quiet, since a phone that's flat or out of reach can't raise the alarm on its own. That costs us pennies a year, so you pay once.

Why a skull called Mort?+

Because the scariest thing about living alone isn't dying, it's nobody noticing. Mort makes the daily bit a little less grim, and "mort" is French for dead, which he finds hilarious. You can turn the jokes off.
